While visiting Asheville, North Carolina we had the pleasure of visiting Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.
Brother Wolf is working within Western North Carolina to help save 1000s of animals’ lives each year. Focusing on three main areas of rescue work has helped them successfully make a difference:
Transport
Brother Wolf visits overcrowded shelters in North Carolina and helps animals who would otherwise loose their lives due to lack of space. Each week Brother Wolf transports rescues back to their Adoption Center, providing a safe space while they wait for their forever homes.
60% of the rescues under the care of Brother Wolf come from overcrowded shelters within Western North Carolina. In 2021 alone, 794 animals were transferred to Brother Wolf from overburdened shelters.
Spay & Neuter
Brother Wolf has a mobile clinic from Fido Fixers that can perform up to 30 spay and neuter surgeries a day. The clinic travels within Western North Carolina providing surgeries at an affordable rate, therefore helping with pet overpopulation and homelessness of future animals.
In 2021 2,018 animals were spayed/ neutered through Brother Wolf.
Adoption
With a whopping 1,371 animal adoption in 2021 Brother Wolf Rescue is placing 1000’s of animals in loving homes each year!
There are many strategies in place to help re-home these animals including adoption days, foster families, and a hiking program where volunteers can take rescues out for the day while wearing ‘adopt me’ harnesses.
With each successful adoption Brother Wolf has more space to help another animal in need.
At the Brother Wolf Adoption Center the facilities are top notch for the rescues.
Large and clean areas for the animals to rest - with open, bright indoor and outdoor spaces for the cats and pups to play or run around, the rescues are getting the best treatment out there!
The store room holds treats and toys for the animals. The cats have toys and the dogs have enrichment and training toys - preparing them for the day they move into their forever homes.
Brother Wolf has set up a fundraiser on chewy.com where individuals can purchase toys and treats for the rescues too.
Once the animal is adopted Brother Wolf has two locations on site where the new pet owners can get food and goodies for their new best friend, including a retail shop and thrift shop.
The retail space sells harnesses, collars, food and treats. Just across the road the thrift shop has a section for pet owners where you can pick up lightly used equipment, clothes, and toys for their rescue - and the best part, the money from the sale goes right back to Brother Wolf.
A big thank you to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue for having The Paws come for a visit while we were visiting Asheville, North Carolina!
We were blown away by the organization, care, and love that goes into saving the lives of 1000s of animals each year!
